Hackney coach and cabriolet fares, Regulations and Acts of Parliament
Cream silk handkerchief plate print in black ink, 1832-34. A hackney coach and cabriolet fare table attributed to J. Bishop of 79 Charterhouse Lane; presumed to date from before 1834 when Hansom patented the 'Hansom Cab', a light two-wheeled cab with driver riding on top, much used in London.
Hand stitched hems. Central area divided into nine sections, five showing London buildings, four with fares (Jan 5, 1832) and regulations captioned "Hackney coach and cabriolet fares, Regulations and Acts of Parliament". Border of fares and carriage types.
Identical to other handkerchiefs numbered 50.26, 30.153/1, 85.172, 85.173 in the Museum collection.
