A man demonstrating some goods at a stall in a street market
A fish stall at Caledonian Market, Lower Holloway, c. 1936. Before the Second World War the Caledonian was the largest street market in London. After the war it moved to Bermondsey and the site was redeveloped as a housing estate and park. This and other street market photographs were taken to illustrate the book 'The Street Markets of London' by Mary Benedetta, published in 1936.
