Two gay rights supporters at the Homosexual Equality Rally in Hyde Park
Two gay rights supporters at the Homosexual Equality Rally in Hyde Park, 1976. The Campaign for Homosexual Equality was founded in 1964 and played a key part in the struggle for gay rights in Britain along with the Gay Liberation Front. The CHE campaigned for the decriminalisation of homosexuality (1969), the lowering of the age of consent, and legal and social equality for LGBT people. The first London Gay Pride Rally (organised by the GLF) took place in Hyde Park in 1972. At its peak in the mid-1970s, the CHE had circa 5,000 members.
