Coronation of Her most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria June 1838
Silk handkerchief dyed red with discharge or resist cream areas; block print in dark brown dye; hand stitched hems., 1838. Commemorating the coronation of Queen Victoria, the central image on this handkerchief is virtually identical to a jigsaw puzzle attributed to A Park. It illustrates the moment when the young Queen was crowned.
Border consists of reserved meandering line and motto "Long Live Victoria, Queen of England" and overprinted crowns and national emblems. Note "Coronation of Her most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria June 1838". Slight smudges in red ground. Same design with added watercolours in V&A Museum (T.128-1978).
