Bucket, wine bucket
Straight-sided wine bucket with thickened and slightly everted rim. There are two pairs of raised moulded concentric bands to the upper and lower sections. The top of the lower pair of mouldings denotes a welded join of the two halves. There is a circular drilled hole centrally in the base which would have been plugged. The handle with bead and reel decoration is attached by two integral semi-circular lugs rising proud of the edge of the vessel. The lugs have been capped by a thin external covering of metal in order to cover both terminals of the handle and this capping must have been assembled and brazed on after the handle was attached. Attached to the base are three external decorative feet, bi-lobed with a central projection. The feet are shaped to allow the base of the bucket to rest halfway down on angled projections. No known parallel.
