Printed Ephemera — 1969
BIBA
This is the second or third of Biba's mail order catalogues, which came out in 1969. In her autobiography 'From A to Biba' (first published in 1983) Barbara Hulanicki recalled how she thought of producing mail order catalogues because the company received many letters from customers wanting to buy by post. Hulanicki wrote that she 'couldn't wait to do our first catalogue. For the first time I could actually realize on paper what the perfect Biba dolly should look like.'
Biba worked on her catalogues with photographers she admired: Donald Silverstein worked on the first, Hans Feurer on the second and third, Helmut Newton on the fourth and Sarah Moon and Harri Peccanotti on the last two catalogues. According to the credits, the model used in this catalogue was Vicki Wise and the dog Hulanicki's own dog Hannibal.
