Printed Ephemera — 1975
OPCS Monitor
Newsletter called the 'OPCS Monitor' on international migration, issued by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS) on 11 September 1975. It shows that net emigration from the UK outstripped immigration by 22,000 during the first three months of 1975. The greatest number of immigrants came from Commonwealth countries. These were, in descending order of numbers of immigrants, Australia, the African Commonwealth, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, Canada, New Zealand and the West Indies. The OPCS defined an immigrant as 'a person who has resided abroad for a year or more and has declared the intention to stay in the United Kingdom for a year or more'.
