Needing A Push: How the arts neglect the disabled
Booklet entitled 'Needing a Push: How the arts neglect the disabled', reporting on the experiences of disabled people attending the Greenwich Festival, 1979. It was produced by the Greater London Arts Association and the Greater London Association for the Disabled. The Greenwich Festival was held at 78 different venues across the borough. The booklet includes photographs showing the difficulty of accessing buildings with steps. Problems were also found with toilet facilities, and with doors that were not wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. There were inadequate parking spaces, and difficulties with using public telephones. The booklet points out that the Chronically Sick and Disabled Person's Act of 1970 was often disregarded by cinemas, theatres, museums and galleries.
