Printed Ephemera — 1985-10
Chic
Copy of 'Chic' magazine for October 1985. The magazine was published in east London and also distributed in the US, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Its publisher was Val McCalla, the Jamaican Londoner famous for launching the 'Voice' newspaper. The content is aimed at young Black people, and this issue includes interviews with Diane Abbot, then Equality Officer for the Association of Cinematic and Television Trades (ACTT) and Craig Charles, an actor from the television comedy science fiction series 'Red Dwarf'. There is a mix of articles on serious subjects such as the large number of Black people in British prisons, and on lighter topics like hairstyles, fashion and films.
