Printed Ephemera — 1988
Gay Sweatshop This Island's Mine
This programme is for a play performed by the Gay Sweatshop Theatre Company. It includes an article on Clause 28, which banned the promotion of homosexuality. The Gay Sweatshop Theatre Company was founded in London in 1975. It aimed to raise gay consciousness through drama and provide more realistic images of gay people than those found in mainstream theatre. Funding and censorship were constant problems for the organisation, which folded when the Arts Council withdrew funding in 1997.
