Photograph, gelatin silver print
Black and white photograph showing the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, Westminster, in the early 20th century. The memorial was erected in the 1870s on the instructions of Queen Victoria in honour of her late husband, Prince Albert, who died of typhoid in 1861. A number of architects, led by Sir George Gilbert Scott, as well as sculptors were involved in the project, which took several years to complete.
