These Jewish immigrants are living in Providence Place, Stepney. By the beginning of the 20th century, the Jewish population of London had expanded to 120,000. These immigrants settled in and around Whitechapel, joining those already resident in the area. Life for the new arrivals was hard and many struggled to find housing and employment.
