Printed Ephemera — 2005-07-07
Evening Standard
The headline of this edition of the Evening Standard 'Carnage' refers to the breaking news of the 4 London bombs that exploded on both the London underground and Number 30 bus on 7th July 2005. Much of the news in the reports printed in the newspaper are unconfirmed reflecting the confusion that inevitably followed the terrorist attack. This 'final' edition of the Evening Standard bears a stark contrast to the first edition that day that focused on the news of London's successful Olympic bid. The two papers reflect how London's collective mood changed from one of euphoria to one of complete despair in the space of a few hours. This edition was printed much later than usual as the reporters waited until they could publish as much news as possible.
