The Carnival procession started in Sloane Square and passed through west London to Shepherd's Bush Green. It included floats, steel bands, fancy dress and street theatre. The leaflet cites the increase in the number of attacks on gay people over the past year, including the attack on the Royal Vauxhall Tavern by members of the National Front. The first Gay Pride march in London took place in 1972, and it became an established event celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender culture.
