Hudson's Bay Company furrier 'sizers' at Beaver House, Garlick Hill
Four furrier workers employed by the Hudson's Bay Company, Beaver House, Garlick Hill, one of the world's largest fur auction houses, where London's fur trade was based, 1974. They are seen 'sizing' the minks after they have been graded. Mrs Goodricke (left), Mrs Taylor and Larry Brotherton were all supervisors. Brotherton had worked for the Hudson's Bay Company for 37 years by then, originally as a sorter of furs. Born in Holborn, he had been in the trade since he left school 52 years earlier. Mrs Tee Hee (right), from Malaysia, had worked there for only three months, on a temporary basis. She planned to study for her A-levels the following September. Beaver House was the official headquarters of Hudson's Bay Company until 1970.
