An anti-apartheid demonstration, Trafalgar Square
A nationwide month of boycotting South African goods was arranged for March 1960, in protest against the policies of Apartheid. Thousands gathered in Trafalgar Square to start the boycott and condemn the racial discrimination of Apartheid. The banner reads 'Socialist Labour League', 'Down with Imperialism', 'Support the African Revolution'.
Addressing the crowds were Tennyson Makiwane from the African National Congress, Hugh Gaitskell and James Callahan from the Labour Party and Father Trevor Huddlestone.
