Gasworks at Nine Elms, Battersea
Two children walk down a road in Nine Elms, Wandsworth, March 1958. The Nine Elms gasholders at the junction of Prince of Wales Drive and Queenstown Road, erected in the 1860s to replace earlier ones destroyed in a gas explosion, were a familiar landmark until they were decommissioned to make way for a major mixed-use regeneration scheme.
