Printed Ephemera — 1905-1908
Programme, theatre programme
Theatre programme for the Dalston Variety Theatre and Playhouse. The single sheet programme is printed with details of the 'seasonal' Christmas pantomime 'Red Riding Hood' and general information about the theatre including prices & performances. The cast included the suffragette Kitty Marion as Prince Charming.
Kitty Marion combined her career as a music hall artiste with her career as a suffragette militant. She was imprisoned 4 times between 1909 and the end of 1912 for window breaking, arson and other militant activity. During her imprisonments she regularly went on hunger strike and was consequently forcibly fed by the prison authorities, which, on one occasion at least, led to her early release.
