Souvenir Peace Party Programme
Souvenir peace party programme issued for a children's street party held on 15 September 1945 to commemorate the end of World War II. The party was held in the Workmen's Hut, Hermon Hill for children living in Southview Drive, Monouth Avenue and Hurstwood Avenue, South Woodford (London E18). Four page programme, the pages bound with a red/white/blue ribbon. Yellow covers have the stencilled title 'Souvenir Peace Party Programme'. Inside on two green pages are typed organisational details and a timed programme of events.
This event took place in the Workmen's Hut due to the rain. Amazingly the local MP, Winston Churchill turned up for the party. As he put on a boy's party hat he declared 'It is for the children that we have laid so many tyrants low. Let us hope that they will be worthy of the sacrifices and keep for generations to come the freedom, decency and honour so dearly bought'.
