Colney Hatch Mental Hospital
This set of 'Directions as to the care of patients out on trial' was issued by Colney Hatch Mental Hospital in New Southgate. It was intended for family members responsible for patients returning home for a trial period. There are 14 directions, including 'no gossiping or joking should be allowed respecting a patient's recent illness'; 'they should take plain food at regular times' and 'should abnormal mental symptoms appear, such as marked excitement, unusual irritability or depression, hearing of voices, peculiar fancies, etc. the doctor's advice should be sought'.
