Model, telephone kiosk model
This is a scale model of the K6 'Jubilee' telephone kiosk launched to coincide with the Silver Jubilee of George V in 1935. The interior is reproduced faithfully in miniature including the telephone, directories, notices and even an integral light bulb.
Designed by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the K6 was mass produced in cast-iron with over 30, 000 installed across Britain by the late 1930s. Scott, originally a church architect, also designed the iconic K2 telephone kiosk. He won a 1924 competition organised by the Royal Fine Art Commission to design a new kiosk for the General Post Office.
