Gas mask, telephone operator's gas mask
This is a telephone operator's gas mask issued during World War II. From 1938 operators working for the General Post Office were supplied with specially adapted gas masks that incorporated both an ear piece and an integral microphone. In the event of a gas attack, the operators would have been able to maintain telecommunications vital to the war effort.
