Telephone answering machine
The Post Office introduced answering machines in the early 1960s. The first machine could only play a pre-recorded message of up to 20 seconds. The model 2 was similarly limited, but could play a message of up to three minutes. Typically these machines were used for information lines. This model 2A machine was refurbished at Post Office Factories in Holloway, London, in 1981.
