Car telephone
Before the advent of cellular mobile phones, British Telecom launched the 'System 4' network in 1982. This Telecom Quartz radiophone was for use in a car. Portable briefcase versions were available, but they needed to be plugged into a car's cigarette lighter socket for power. Features of the radiophone included a 'hands free' loudspeaker option. The phone's memory could store up to 99 numbers. Users could call anywhere in the UK and also make international calls.
