Printed Ephemera — 1940-12-31
Daily Mail
Copy of the Daily Mail newspaper dated 31 December 1940. On the front page the news is dominated by the latest events of the London Blitz and a photograph of St Paul's standing undamaged 'in the midst of the burning city'. This powerful image became one of the most famous and iconic press photographs of World War II and came to represent the stoic resistance and spirit of the capital and Londoners during the Blitz. Its significance was even recognised on the day it was published as the newspaper captions it 'War's Greatest Picture'.
