Social History — 1836-1966
Pastry roller
This pastry cutter was used in a North London bakery owned by the Stanley family. The bakery was located in the cellar of a terraced house at 219 Eversholt Street near Euston Station. The building was demolished by Camden Council to make way for the Ampthill Square housing development in the late 1960s.
Bread was the main product of the bakery, but it also sold doughnuts, cakes and biscuits. The bakery's last owner had learnt to bake bread at the age of nine. His father made bread deliveries as far as Wood Green using a horse and cart. This practice stopped around the beginning of World War One.
