Printed Ephemera — 1924
The Jewish Guardian
Issue of the Jewish Guardian for Friday 25th 1924, priced at 2d. This newspaper was published between 1919 and 1931 and represented the views of the League of British Jews. The League, founded by Lionel de Rothschild, Sir Philip Magnus and Lord Swaythling, opposed the Zionists who had successfully persuaded the British government to issue the Balfour Declaration in 1917. The Balfour Declaration stated Britain’s support for ‘the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people’. Jews who opposed Zionism were concerned that its focus on Jewish separateness would undermine Jewish integration into British society.
