Political poster issued by the National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations. Produced by S.H Benson's Limited a leading advertising agency in London during the first half of the 20th century the poster depicts a Union Jack flag being painted over in red by the hand of 'socialism'. The Conservative Party commissioned some of the most visually striking posters of the decade. This was probably produced for the 1929 election, and played on fears that 'red' Socialism threatened British identity and the traditional British way of life. In 1920 posters provided one of the few means of addressing the nation. Radio broadcasts were several years in the future.
