Hat, bowler hat
Stephen Jones of 38 Great Queen Street, made this Union Jack felt bowler hat in about 2000. Jones is known for his wit and humour and his hats often reinterpret traditional styles. This hat plays on the symbols of Britain promoted in tourist literature and sold as souvenirs on London streets.
Jones was born in 1957. After studying at High Wycombe School of Art, he moved to London to study fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
Jones graduated in 1979 and opened his first millinery shop in Covent Garden in 1980. He worked with pop groups such as Spandau Ballet and Culture Club, and has created millinery for many of the world's leading fashion designers including John Galliano, Dior, and Vivienne Westwood.
