London's tramways: Round the clock
Advertising poster issued by London County Council Tramways to promote their tram services and the availability of 'cheap fares' at certain times of the day. The poster, printed in red, blue and yellow on a cream background, includes the graphic of a large clock divided into sections headed 'Night cars' 'workman fares' 'cheap midday fares'. The poster was designed by the wood engraver and typographer Edward Walters, who was one of several students at the Central School of Arts and Crafts commissioned to design tramway posters for the LCC. Walters later started his own small press in London.
