Social History — 1890-1910
Letter rack
This brass letter rack was previously used by Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1936-1911) and kept on the writing desk at his home in Harrow. It was one of several items from Gilbert's home donated to the Museum in 1954 on the death of his 'unofficially' adopted daughter Nancy McIntosh.
The poet, dramatist and librettist William Gilbert was best known for his fourteen comic operas written in collaboration with Sir Arthur Sullivan.
