Printed Ephemera — 1939-1942
Label, evacuation label
Buff coloured evacuation label part printed, part handwitten, produced and used by the London County Council during the wartime evacuation scheme. The label was worn by the evacuee Joyce Arram. Her name and home address 99a Kentish Town Road is handwritten on the label. Below is stamped the name and address of her school, Great College Street School, Kentish Town Road. On both sides of the label is printed 'London County Council' On the reverse is also stamped Joyce's school number, '253'. Children taking part in the council's evacuation scheme usually gathered at their school before being transported to safe areas. Labels were attached to the children's clothes to help identify the different school groups as they boarded trains to the countryside.
