Working History
Tongs, glassmaker's tongs
Alongside the blowpipe, tongs were one of the most important tools to a glassmaker. They made it possible to pick up very hot glass, to mould it into shape by squeezing and pulling, and to hold it still while using another piece of equipment, for example glassmaker’s shears. Tongs came in many different shapes and sizes, each created for specific jobs.
