One of two Wellclose Prison cells c. 1700, with walls lined with wooden boards which are carved with inmates' names etc. The prison was built on the premises of the 'Cock & Neptune' tavern on Neptune Street as a house of detention for insolvent debtors. Additional cell woodwork also in this accession. Includes carvings of houses, buildings and birds, as well as individuals names and prayers.
