Social History — C. 1980
Badge, lapel badge
This lapel badge was produced in the 1980s in protest at the policies of Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government. The period saw considerable political and industrial unrest as the government made radical changes to Britain's economy and clashed with trade unions.
The badge's slogan is a reference to the 1980 Employment Act, which placed new restrictions on trade unionists' right to picket workplaces during industrial disputes. This badge was sold on the street for 20p to a member of the Museum of London's staff in 1981.
