The Mystery of Edwin Drood
This the first instalment of The Mystery of Edwin Drood by Charles Dickens was published in April 1870. Covering pages 1-32 the partwork includes illustrations by Luke Fildes. Although six instalments of the novel were published it remained unfinished when Dickens died in June 1870, the last instalment being published after his death in September. Charles Dickens’s novels were initially published in monthly or weekly parts. Each part had a distinctive illustrated blue or green paper cover. Inside, readers found numerous pages of adverts as well as the text and two engraved plates.
