The explosions on the underground railway
Double page cutting from The Graphic magazine dated 3rd November 1883. The article is illustrated with a series of black & white images detailing 'The Explosions on the Underground Railway' between Praed Street and Edgware Road Stations caused by bombs planted by militant Irish Republicans. The cutting Includes images of the explosion site, wrecked railway carriages, crowd scenes & the removal of the wounded.
During the 1880s London’s public transport system became a key target for Irish republican campaigners. Bombs were placed in mainline and underground stations including Charing Cross, Victoria and Paddington. The explosions caused injuries but no deaths.
