An omnibus and hansom cabs, High Holborn near Chancery Lane
A view photographed from an omnibus on the move along High Holborn near Chancery Lane. The photograph captures a sense of the immediacy and hustle and bustle of traffic in central London at this time.
It is taken looking east towards Holborn Circus and Gray's Inn Road. Numerous shops such as Wallis's the drapers, Gamage's selling cycles and Baker's the clothiers line the street. The large building with the spires in the distance is Holborn Bar with the Prudential Building nearer to the camera on the left. Apart from the identification of buildings the photograph can be dated by reference to the Nestle milk advertising signs as this product was only introduced in the early 1900s.
