Newgate Prison
Newgate Prison, c. 1890. The prison was built towards the end of the 18th century and, from 1783, housed London's gallows where outdoor public executions were carried out. The prison was demolished in 1904 and the Central Criminal Court, often referred to as the Old Bailey, was built on its site.
