Printed Ephemera — 1806
Funeral on the Late Right Honorable William Pitt
William Pitt, the Younger, became Britain's youngest Prime Minister in 1783 at the age of 24. His death in 1806 was unexpected even though he had suffered from various illnesses during his life, including gout. A funeral procession was arranged from the Painted Chamber in the Houses of Parliament through Westminster Hall, across New Palace Yard, along Union Street and the Broad Sanctuary to the west door of Westminster Abbey.
This ticket admits the bearer to form part of this funeral procession.
It is numbered 226 and issued to the Revd. M Feilde BA and signed by 'Isaac Heard - Garter''. There is the remains of a black wax seal in the lower right hand corner. The ticket includes an engraving of a weeping woman holding her head with her hand and leaning on a tomb. The elaborate border includes a skull with wings at the lower left hand corner.
