A Watchman making the rounds
Thomas Rowlandson depicts a tired and shabby watchman who is oblivious to two burglars who are attempting to break into a building in the background. While one holds the ladder steady, the other tries to force open a second-storey window. Rowlandson's drawing is a comment on the inefficiency of parish law enforcement during the late 18th century.
