Archaeology — Roman; mid 1st-early 2nd century
Pottery, vessel, bowl
Part of a decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 29, probably made in one of the potteries of South Gaul. Designed with two zones of decoration which consist of an upper zone with an elaborate pattern of winding scrolls interspersed with leaf-tip triangular blocks and a lower zone that depicts a hare being chased by a hound with leaf-tip and stirrup leaf sectors. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
