Printed Ephemera — 1992
Dekko
This is the first issue of the London-based Asian arts magazine ‘Dekko’, published in the summer of 1992. Articles on 'Asian Arts, Comments, Style, and Substance' written from 'an Asian perspective' were contributed on a voluntary basis. The magazine profiles Asians working in various fields, from solicitors to artists, pointing to new trends and developments in the ways Asians perceive their role in British society. A feature on health highlights the largest killer of Asian people in the UK: coronary heart disease. There is also an article about breaking down taboos and raising awareness in the Asian community about sex and HIV/AIDS.. The magazine was based in Forest Gate, Newham.
