Printed Ephemera — 1983
Postcard
Postcard printed for the 1983 Bermondsey by-election in which Peter Tatchell was Labour Party candidate. Headed 'Peter Tatchell Called Today', the card was left at homes when the householder was out during doorstep campaigning. During the election tabloid newspapers and the Liberal opposition attacked Tatchell on a personal level for his homosexuality. The Liberal Party managed to win the seat with its slogan describing the election as 'A Straight Choice' between its candidate, Simon Hughes, and Tatchell. Tatchell has campaigned for gay rights as a member of the groups Gay Liberation Front and Outrage!
