Printed Ephemera — 1951
Festival Pleasure Gardens
This leaflet advertises the Festival Pleasure Gardens at Battersea Park for the Festival of Britain, 1951. It includes an illustrated map. The Gardens provided welcome relief from wartime austerity with thrilling funfair rides and novelty amusements, theatre and dancing, Punch & Judy shows and many other entertainments. There were plenty of beer gardens, refreshment bars and cafes. Over 8 million people visited the Gardens in the five months that they were open, over 6 million of them from London.
