Invitation
Invitation to a service of dedication in St Paul's Cathedral for the opening of the Festival of Britain, 3 May 1951. The border of the invitation includes leeks, roses, acorns and thistles and heraldic shields, to represent the four British nations taking part in the Festival. The ceremony was attended by representatives from around the country, including statesmen and Mayors, leaders of the arts and professions, and the whole of the Royal Family. King George VI officially opened the Festival from the steps of the Cathedral. The ceremony with its colourful pageantry was broadcast around the world.
