Printed Ephemera — 1821-1838
Tinsel print
Two engraved portraits, one of the Royal Champion holding aloft the Coronation Cup and one of the Champion holding aloft the Coronation glove. Both Champions are mounted on horseback, facing each other. They have been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on white card handpainted with background scenery including a central canopied Coronation chair. The portraits are embellished with metal foil & tinsel ornaments notably on the armour, dress accessories, horse blankets etc. The horse blankets & the capes are of cotton and silk. Such portraits would have been produced to commemorate Royal Coronations and sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
