Plan for preventing the pollution of the water of the Thames and preserving the sewage for Agricultural purposes. . . .
Plan for preventing the pollution of the water of the Thames and preserving the sewage for Agricultural purposes, by means of Grand Sewers running parallel with each bank into which all the minor drains should fall. A railway & wharfs should be so constructed as to form the roof of the sewers; with a grand public walk forming a roof to the railway. The three combined objects would cost little more than either of the three separate; whilst the utility, grandeur, & proportionate value of property would be greatly increased. A sketch of the river with St Paul's in the background, showing the effect of the scheme, with a plan of the river from Westminster to below the Tower, where 'receptacles' on either bank would receive the sewage for distribution to farms. The scheme included a weir ('wear') across the river at the Tower. Dictrict: Lower Thames Street.
