Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1828-1830
View of the Egyptian Hall - On 30th April 1828
View of the Egyptian Hall on 30th April 1828. The Egyptian Hall, properly known as the London Museum, opened in Piccadilly in 1811 and was used for exhibitions and shows by a variety of proprietors before being demolished in 1905. It stood at 170-173 Piccadilly. The print shows the interior of the Hall with an exhibition of (perhaps) jewellery laid out on inclined cloth-covered tables, with people inspecting the exhibits and others - all women - behind the tables, perhaps the exhibitors.
[TARDILL: This is the Egyptian Hall at Mansion House, not the London Museum, Picadilly]
Beneath the lithograph is a strip of paper displaying an etched shield and animal design.
