"This and the four following Plates are engraved after an original drawing on a Roll of Vellum, representing the Death, Funeral &c. of John Islip, Abbot of Westminster, who died Anno. 1532, in the possession of the Society of Antiquaries of London." The five plates are accompanied by a description (over three sides of a double-size folded page) of the original drawings, some details of John Islip's life (he was a favourite of Henry VII but lived into Henry VIII's reign, dying in 1522, having made substantial improvements to Westminster Abbey), and a contemporary description of his funeral. In this first compartment Islip is portrayed standing under an arch round which branches grow flowering with all his (named) virtues.
